Covid-19 guidelines for resumption of driving lessons

We take the health and wellbeing of our students and staff very seriously and will be following the latest government guidelines and sector best practice at all times in respect of the current Covid-19 pandemic.

To ensure we protect all our students and instructors, the driving instruction vehicle and equipment will be deep cleaned prior to resumption of driving lessons.

In addition, before and after each lesson or driving test, all touch points inside and outside the car will be re-sanitised.

• The car will be cleaned outside the student’s pick-up point. Please keep two metres away until the instructor has exited the vehicle and you are called over.
• Students will be asked a number of questions before they are permitted to enter the vehicle.
• If the student is showing any signs of Covid-19 or has been recently in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid19, the lesson will be terminated.
• We will be reducing the number of driving lessons we deliver each day to ensure the safety of our students and instructor and to ensure appropriate sanitisation is carried out.
• The instructor may be wearing a face visor during the lesson.

Pupils responsibility before each lesson

You will be required to stand two metres away and confirm the following questions about your health:
• Symptoms of Covid-19 – have you had it, been tested for it, and had results of the test?
• Do you have a continuous cough?
• Do you have a fever or high temperature?
• Do you have a loss of taste or smell?
• Shielding – are you in a household of family members that are in the enhanced risk health categories?
• Do you have any health issues which may impact your ability to drive?
• Have you washed your hands thoroughly for at least 20-seconds before leaving the house and entering the car?
• You can wear gloves, (these should be put on just before entering the vehicle and the instructor must see you put them on). General advice is that good hand hygiene is better than gloves, which can provide a false sense of security
• You should wear a face covering that meets IIR standards. Your instructor will be able to supply a pack containing a disposable IIR face mask, a pair of nitrile gloves (supplied in sizes Medium or Large) and two alcohol based sanitising wipes for a separate charge of £2 per pack.
• You will need to sanitise your hands again, even if you have washed them before entering the vehicle (you can use your own or we will supply)
• All loose items, such as mobile phones, money or house keys will be placed in a sanitised box provided by the instructor and placed in the box on the back seat.
• Any bags or coats etc. must also be placed in the box on the back seat.
• Driving lessons can only be delivered in the driving school car (this may be the same for driving tests, but the DVSA has not confirmed this)
• If you wish to pay by cash, please bring the correct money, you will be asked to place this in a lidded box. Should change be required then this will be given on the following lesson to avoid handling notes.
• If you wish to pay by bank transfer this must be made no later than 6pm THE DAY BEFORE the lesson.

Cancellations

If you or anyone you are living with have any COVID symptoms you MUST cancel your driving lesson before your lesson start time. You will NOT be charged for short notice COVID related cancellations. However, once cancelled you will not be able to restart your lessons until you have a negative test result or can demonstrate that you have followed the Government isolation recommendations. In the event that the instructor contracts Covid-19 they will also need to follow the same government recommendations on isolation and testing.
Should you wish to cancel your lesson for any other reason, the 24-hour rule applies, lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged.
